FAQ for Learn, Share, Create website-building workshop

The course materials for the Learn, Share, Create workshop are starting to come together.  It's exciting to have something long-form to work on...until I find myself ranting about something only nominally related and have to rein it back in. People have sent in a few questions about the program, and the answers might be useful to those who are still considering signing up: 

What is the time commitment?

You'll want to allocate 5-6 hours per week: 1.5 hours on the phone call and 3.5-4.5 hours of reading and homework.  There will be one week in the middle without a call where people can catch up and really focus on what they're building--so it'll be seven weeks total. 

What is the schedule? 

We'll be starting in early July and running through the middle of August.

What if I can't be there every week? 

I'll post recordings of the calls each week, just for the group members, plus you'll be able to get mid-week check-ins on the group Facebook page. 

What do I get, exactly? 

  • You'll have the course ebook, which will guide you through the technical, design & strategic parts of a website project. 
  • You'll have access to the call recordings and facebook group for ongoing peer support and networking. 
  • You'll have a website (as long as you keep up with the course work!) It won't be facebook and google combined, but it will show your work and best of all, you'll have the tools to keep improving it. 
  • You'll have a personal strategy for online marketing. 
  • You'll have the knowledge to build another website, if you so desire.

Are there any costs beyond tuition?

You'll need to pay for hosting & a domain name, though we'll cover the details of that process in the first week. I'd expect about $10/month for hosting, but that depends on the platform you choose.  You may also choose to buy a theme for your site, which could range from $35-70 (though there are free options).  

What do I need to take the course? 

You'll need internet access & a web browser, but no fancy software. The ebook will be a PDF so you'll need to make sure you can read that. You might want a pen and paper, depending on how you do your best thinking. 

What will I be doing each week? 

Before we get started, you'll read the introductory materials.  At our first call, we'll go over the reading and introduce everyone.  From there, you'll have a very clear assignment of reading materials, worksheets and exercises to complete for the next call.  Rinse, repeat, and you'll have a website!

How much does it cost? 

It costs $399, and payment is due before the course starts.  There are no refunds once I've sent you the course materials, but if you're concerned with your ability to complete the course work once we get started, please contact me directly.  I'm sure we can find a way to make it work.
